Fly Fishing in Golden Bay

Collingwood is home to the recently discovered flats fishery for Yellowtail Kingfish. These amazing fish come right into the shallows along the Golden Bay coastline to hunt prey. The kingfish are targeted on fly rod and are skillfully spotted and stalked. They are powerful fighters and need good quality equipment to overpower them. This phenomenon is sure to attract many visiting anglers from around the globe in years to come. As well as Kingfish there are other species worth targeting while staying in Collingwood.

Kahawai are frequently encountered on the flats and around the Aorere river mouth. Once again these are great fish that fight really hard. The streams and river at the top of the South Island are also home to Brown and Rainbow trout. Some of the worlds best sight fishing on fly gear is found here.
