The Station House Team

Darren Steel grew up in the nearby Nelson, NZ region, and Sylvie Prieur grew up on the St. Lawrence River, in Canada. They met in Canada in 1999, and were shortly married after in 2007. They worked long hours together in Vancouver, British Columbia for over ten years, so they could earn enough money, to achieve their dream, of owning an Accommodation business, in Aotearoa.

Their daughter Jaimie was two years old when they moved to Collingwood to the Station House, and brother Leroy was born one year later. Collingwood has been the most wonderful place for the children to grow up.  With a school and beach walking distance, they have had an idyllic childhood in paradise.

Darren and Sylvie chose Golden Bay/Mohua specifically to settle, to raise their family, enjoy a peaceful lifestyle and share the wonders of the area with people from Aotearoa and all corners of the earth. The area was chosen as it is somewhat isolated with all of its beauty, of unique beaches, native forest walks, and creative folks. It has a rich interesting past, and as you explore the area you will be enveloped in all its beauty and history. The people are warm, friendly, creative, and community oriented.

Our favourite places to visit as a family are all of the beaches the area has to offer.  They are all different and unique. Our favourite ones are the Collingwood beach, Pakawau, Wharariki, Milnthorpe, , Pohara, Tata and Totaranui. You can swim at all of these beaches except for Wharariki.  Our favourite native bush walks are, Milnthorpe, Waikorupupu Springs and Hydro walk, Wainui Falls, Kaituna track and the Abel Tasman and Heaphy track, which are two of Aotearoa’s great walks.

Driving up the Aorere Valley is always such a treat as well.  We love to stop at the Langford Store for a sweet treat, ice cream and coffee and peruse all that is on display. Following a dip in the cold local swimming hole, Salsbury falls.

Going towards the West Coast, also brings a different beautiful landscape and a swim or paddle board on the Kaihoka Lakes is always so enjoyable.

We are never bored on a rainy day either, as across the road is The Courthouse Café, museums, and galleries, shops, distilleries, cafes and restaurants nearby to fulfil all our wants for our eyes and pukus.

Our fun loving family has enjoyed living here for over close to two decades and we still enjoy the area and all it has to offer, and we hope you will enjoy Mohua as much as we do.
